No surface action all afternoon. Trolled olive articulated bunny 1 ½ hour north side of cove and along road, black nymph dropper another hour on north side of cove. Nothing
on either. Two other fishers same luck.
3/28/2006
Water Temp 49°, air 56°, Cloudy and chilly most of day. Wind calm, water calm. Some pollen on surface and a few chronomid / emergers on surface. Started fishing at 1730 - one hour before sunset. Very limited surface feeding from 1730 til dark at 1900. Water surface was totally calm. Fished around cove with dry fly and nymph dropper. One soft strike at 1800, nothing else.
4/27/2006
Water Temp 56°, air 58°, Warm day with thin overcast. Very light breeze. Water
remains clear. Very few chronomid or emergers on water. Started fishing at 1630 for two hours (sunset about 2030). Sun still well above trees at 1830. Trolled black bunny, olive articulated bunny, black long chronomid, with no strike. No fish visible. Along north side of cove, across to road point, along road to east end.
4/28/2006
W/ Martin. Water temp 56°, Air 58°, Chilly overcast day. 1630 cool breeze. Stryed breezy and cool all afternoon until about 1900. 1900 to 2030 breeze went down. Stayed cool and overcast. No chironimid or others visible on surface of water. Trolled and cast #10 Pass Lake Nymphs form launch at highway trees across to point and then down west shore to house. Then I seitched to full sinking line and #6 olive articulated bunny. Returned along west shore to cove. Fished cove from 1900 til 2045. After wind went down a few surface feeders seen. Only action all day was one soft strike on articulated bunny along west shore 200 yards from house, and Martin had one strike on Pass Lake Nymph near launch at about 2015. Over 4 hours with two rods fishing and nothing must be one of worst days ever.
5/3/2006
Water Temp 57, air 60°. Nice sunny day, high about 65°, No clouds. Sunset about 2030. Calm wind at 1900. Nothing visible in water, water very smooth. No surface feeding. Fished #10 dry fly (green dubbing body, brown hackle) with Pass Lake nymph dropper. 1945 got one nice 18" Rainbow on dry fly.
5/4/2006
Water temp 59°, Air 65°. Sunny warm day, totally calm, water smooth. Two fish feeding probably on minnows within 15' of launch as I was getting gear together. A couple came and started throwing a stick for their dog as I was about to cast to them. Very little surface activity. Trolled with #12 dry fly (green body, brown hackle, my tied fly, hackle trimmed to hook point length) and small chronimid nymph dropper. 1950 got one 17" Rainbow on dry fly. Fly had submerged during troll.
5/9/2006
Water 58°, Air 52°, clear sunny day but cool, high about 55°. 1915 quite calm. NO visible activity, water calm, no insects visible on surface. Trolled #12dry fly (gray rabbit dubbing body, brown hackle) with small chronimid nymph dropper. 2000 one nice fish took dry fly and broke it off. 2050 caught 12" Rainbow on dry fly. Almost zero visible feeding all evening.
2006 So far has had little or no evening hatch activity. There have been only a couple of nice warm days. Most of the spring has been fairly cool, with several quite cold and windy days. Several times cold windy days two or three at a time with only moderately nice days in between. Even warmer days haven't produced evening hatch/feeding. I've talked to several others at the lake and everyone has been having the same experience so far.
5/24/2006
Water 62°, Air about 55°, cloudy after day of rain showers. Water still clear of algae. Very few chronimid visible on surface. Calm, occasional light breeze, water calm, NO visible activity at 2000. About 2015 hatch of small gnats started, became quite heavy by 2045. Lots of sparrows. A few feeding fish after 2015 til dark 2130. Trolled olive Articulated Bunny 2000 til 2030 - nothing. Trolled and cast to risers Pass Lake Nymph til 2130 - two bumps/rejects but missed both.
5/30/2006
Water 63°, Air 66° at 1800. Sunset 2055. Nice warm day following another week of cool rainy weather. Very light breeze, mostly calm. Very pleasant afternoon. Water still clear. Just a few visible chronimid lying on surface. Trolled Egg Sucking Leech Bunny #6 along north shore across to highway trees and along highway, cast into shallows all along east bank all the way to the spring with #8 beadheadOlive Woolley Bugger with nothing other than several hits from small fingerlings/minnows. By about 2030 some surface feeders - some repeating. Got and lost one nice fish on #10 Brown Hackle Green Body dry fly with Pass Lake Nymph dropper - don't know which fly he took. Trolled and cast to rising fish til 2115. Very pleasant evening with just enough rising fish to make it interesting. NO action other than fingerlings prior to 2030, though.
10/13/2006
Water 58°, Air about 55°. Foggy. Lots of algae still in water. So thick it collected as a film on the surface at downwind shores. Fished from 1400 til 1700. Trolled black BH Wooly Bugger to NE Inlet. Nothing. Tried along shore with black Matuka. Nothing. Trolled back along East shore and road with white articulated bunny. Nothing.
5/23/2007
Cool evening. Wind mostly calm. Water still clear. Fairly large hatch about 2000. Fished from about 1930 til 2130. Hooked 8 Rainbows from 2030-2130. Landed 4 - 2 on Pass Lake nymph dropper, two on #8 Muddler dry fly. Fair number of fish on surface.
5/24/2007
Similar to 2/23 but with more wind. Much less hatch activity. Fewer fish on surface. Hooked 3 and landed one on same rig as last evening.
5/15-5/30/2008
Fished several afternoons and evenings. Generally cool all month. Nice afternoons and evenings with little or no wind. Got a number of very nice RB trolling or casting black wooly bugger with chronimid dropper. Most on wolly bugger but a few on the dropper. One afternoon got 6 fish in about an hour in area near house at end of lake. 3 of them out of the weeds just to the west of in front of house. The other 3 trolling in that area - one was a 12" Brown, the rest 16" plus RB.
Also fished several sunsets. A couple were fairly good, a couple just ok.
