Driving from Limon, Colorado, to Dodge City, Kansas, we encountered fairly high wind all day quartering right todirect headwind-25-30 MPH. Gunsmoke RV Park is a firly nice rv park. Gravel parking with grass between.
On April 2 we spent the day at the Dodge City / Boot Hill historic reconstruction. VERY well executed reconstruction of 1880's Dodge City and museum. The museum contains a large amount of information, memorabilia, dioramas, etc covering plains Indian culture, early white settlement, buffalo hunting, railroad development, cattle drives, and later development. One of the better local historical presentations we've seen. Lots and lots of photos, documents, and stories about Wyatt Earp, Doc Masterson, and many other lawmen and outlaws. It was pointed out that many of the lawmen and outlaws were one in the same, depending on the day. It must have been a pretty wild place. In addition to the wealth of historical material they also had a period living room from the 1960's set up with a TV showing the Gunsmoke series along with photos and memorabilia from the program. I was a little surprised to learn that the Longbranch was an actual saloon in Dodge City rather than a location created for the TV series.
Drove 15 miles west to Cimmaron for our first quilt shop stop of the trip. Neat quilt shop in an old hotel lobby. The lobby was set up with the old furniture, some magazines, etc. Nice place to sit and read while Susan shopped and visited with the quilt shop owner.
